Microsoft Managed Desktop Service to End in July 2024

Blogs and insights

Microsoft is retiring its Managed Desktop service on the 31st of July 2024. Launched in 2018, Microsoft Managed Desktop was created to simplify the deployment and management of Microsoft 365 devices. With no plan from Microsoft to replace Microsoft Managed Desktop, organisations relying on the service will need to find an alternative. As a Managed Service Provider and Tier 1 Microsoft Solutions Partner, the 848 Group can make the transition away from Microsoft Managed Desktop easy.

The End of Microsoft Managed Desktop.

Microsoft Managed Desktop is a cloud-based device management service that includes Windows 10/11 Enterprise and Microsoft 365 apps. It provides a simplified and streamlined approach to managing the lifecycle of devices in enterprise environments.

As of the 31st of July 2024, Microsoft Managed Desktop will no longer be available, and Microsoft’s engineers will no longer be able to address service requests from customers.

Additionally, the Microsoft Managed Desktop Security Operations Centre will drop support for monitoring and responses, requiring businesses to migrate to alternative security solutions.

Replacing Your Managed Desktop Service.

The idea behind Microsoft Managed Desktop was to provide businesses with a hassle-free desktop experience, where the complexities of managing and securing devices were offloaded to Microsoft engineers.  Outsourcing these types of IT tasks reduces the resources needed to manage updates and security requirements and provides better visibility of any issues and performance. Although Microsoft is ending its Managed Desktop Service, you can still reap these benefits from an accredited Microsoft Partner like 848.
