Employee Spotlight: From Engineer to Army Reserve, Meet Peter Hull

Blogs and insights

Peter Hull is a highly specialised Tier 3 Engineer at the 848 Group. He’s also a British Army Reserve. We’re shining the spotlight on Peter and his journey, along with how 848 supports employees like him outside of their roles.

Peter, The Engineer.

Peter joined the 848 Group at the start of 2023. As a Tier 3 Engineer, he now resolves complex technical issues that have been escalated from lower-tier support levels. He has in-depth expertise in RDS server builds, Exchange, Active Directory, Intune and Microsoft 365 plus Panda Anti-Virus and Watchguard firewalls. He is tasked with troubleshooting and resolving intricate problems that require advanced technical knowledge and experience. He plays an important role in the Service Desk team delivering high-quality service and solutions to 848 clients.

Peter, The Army Reserve

Peter has been in the British Army for 24 years. He started as a Reserve Permanent Staff Instructor at Birmingham University Officer Training Corps. His area of operation is teaching and training, and this requires him to dedicate some of his weekends and evenings throughout the year to train up-and-coming soldiers, coaching and guiding them through rigorous courses and assessments.

Q and A Session

Q: Why Did You Join the British Army?

Peter: “I have always been interested in the armed forces. I started out when I was 13 in the Air Training Corps and then I joined the RAF when I turned 18. From then I went onto to be an Army Reserve before transferring into the Regular Army 5 years.”

Q: How has your military service influenced your career as an Engineer?

Peter: “Being in the military teaches you a lot of transferable skills that include the ability to be able to work as part of a team as well as on your own without supervision. It teaches you to be thorough in what you do and to plan for every eventuality.”

Q: What advice do you have for others balancing a dual role like yours?

Peter: “This can be very tricky, and you need to have a lot of support and understanding from both family and loved ones and your employer. I do feel very blessed that I have always had this throughout my 34 years of supporting both the RAF and the Regular and Reserve Army.”
