Background.

Rosti Automotive is a global plastic injection moulding company and contract manufacturer to some of the world’s leading manufacturers in the packaging, consumer appliances and business machines. Rosti is trusted by many multinational corporations across multiple industry sectors, providing products, components, services, and forming long-lasting partnerships with customers.

Rosti Automotive made the decision to move from its parent company in Denmark to a separate legal entity in the UK. The client required 848’s help to transition IT systems from the existing Denmark database and server to the UK.

The Challenge.

Rosti Automotive was a subsidiary of a large, international investment group. The company made the decision to become a separate legal entity in the UK in 2018. Rosti Automotive reached out to 848 for support with its transitioning IT systems as the business diverged from its parent company.

The client was still running on the existing IT infrastructure, sharing systems and resources including, Microsoft Dynamics AX line and group level IT support, all of which was located and managed in Denmark.

Rosti Automotive UK has 1,500 staff across 5 main sites (Scotland, Swansea, Warwickshire, North Yorkshire). The company required a complete digital transformation of all IT systems, software, and services in order to achieve complete IT independence.

The Solution.

The first stage of the project was the discovery stage. The 848 team assessed the current IT infrastructure at Rosti Automotive and reviewed the applications and services involved in the operations of the business. After site visits, application audits, and user interviews, 848 provided a full assessment documentation and statement of risk associated with the transition to IT self-sufficiency.

848 designed a solution to seamlessly transition and migrate the business’s IT systems from the existing Denmark environment to a new IT estate in the UK. 848 took an agile approach and created clear work packages that could easily be measured and ensured minimal downtime for the client.

848 worked in unity with the Rosti Automotive team during deployment of the project and provided support and guidance at every stage.

The work packages included an email migration from the hosted exchange servers in Denmark to UK hosted Microsoft Exchange Online for over 1,500 user mailboxes, public folders, personal archives and shared mailboxes and resources. This process was carried out by the 848 team with zero disruption to business operations and with end-user adoption and training.

It also included the integration of a highly available, disaster recovery resilient firewall solution replicated across two separate UK virtual data centres, as well as the testing of server environments, local network switching, and firewalls at each of the sites. 848 also designed and configured an effective and reliable hosted wireless-controller network system for the management of wireless endpoints deployed at each site. This was a part of the business’s critical manufacturing and product supply fulfilment processes.

The team also designed and deployed new data centres, network infrastructure, and virtual server estates, built using a new domain and made fully functional for the transition of business applications and data migration.

The Result.

848 completed a successful and seamless digital transformation within the required timeframe, and supported the client in reaching their goal of full IT independence. 848 worked as an extension of the team at Rosti Automotive as they helped the company transition to IT independence.

At every stage of the project, 848 provided the team with guidance, advice, and technical insights to support the company through each work package. Rosti Automotive has also utilised the 848 managed services team to access ongoing support and technical assistance. During the transition and migration project, a total of sixteen members of the 848 technical team were actively involved to help plan, build, and run the project.
