On the 6th October, a team of thrill-seekers from 848 is taking on the ultimate challenge of a skydive for charity. They’ll be doing this to raise money for our local charity of the year, the Douglas Macmillan Hospice, also known as Dougie Mac.
The team is taking part in a tandem skydive, jumping out of a plane at 14,000 feet, and free-falling for almost a minute at 125mph, before deploying their parachutes and landing back on the ground.
The team must reach their individual fundraising targets of £395 in order to complete the challenge. Any donation big or small would be greatly appreciated. Please help us get our team up in the sky next month! You can find their JustGiving pages linked below.
Who’s taking part and why?
Dougie Mac is close to many hearts within the business. Michelle Whittaker, Tim Hayward, Dylan Lawton, and Kate Birks are all signed up to take the leap – here’s what this skydive means to them:
Kate Birks, Marketing Executive says – “A skydive has been on my bucket list for years, so when our charity committee suggested this fundraising idea, I immediately signed myself up! This will definitely be my biggest challenge to date, but I know that I’m doing it to raise vital funds for an amazing charity that does amazing work every day, and I’m proud to be supporting them.”
Michelle Whittaker, Account Director says – “Dougie Mac is a charity that I know and cherish deeply. A close friend of mine has a beautiful daughter, Penny Mills, who was born with a rare disease and life-limiting condition called Sanfilippo Syndrome. Dougie Mac has supported Penny in so many ways and allowed her family to enjoy some much-needed respite.”
About Dougie Mac
Dougie Mac is our chosen local charity of the year. We’re committed as a business to supporting them in as many ways as we can, whether that’s with fundraising events or volunteering.
The Dougie Mac Hospice provides hospice services free of charge to over 3,000 patients with life-limiting illnesses each year. Across the North Staffordshire area, Dougie Mac goes the extra mile to provide a warm, friendly, and peaceful environment both at the hospice and in family homes. The charity works hard to continuously improve its services, always striving to deliver the very best care to meet the ever-changing needs of our local community.
Dougie Mac relies on fundraisers to continue doing the amazing work it does. To run the hospice each year costs £11.2 million and around 75% of this amount is funded through the generosity of the local people.
