Microsoft have refunded the most disappointed dad in the world

We’ve heard many stories about children unwittingly spending tons of money online, grabbing their parent’s credit card and spending all their hard-earned cash on Farmville. It’s unusual to see a 17-year-old do this, however- yet that’s exactly what Lance Perkins’ son did by playing FIFA online. Just 2 days before Christmas, the dad was hit with a $8,206.43 bill, which is roughly £5703.07 in GBP. Microsoft originally didn’t intend to refund the massive fee, until Perkins explained his son was still a minor and ‘didn’t know’ he was running the charges up on his dad’s card. The kid’s Xbox has been banned from the house, as have all other gaming devices. I don’t know which party I feel worse for.

Facebook is finally changing the way you ‘like’ posts

[av_image src=’http://www.848.co/wp-content/uploads/2016/02/facebook-like-1-300×229.jpg’ attachment=’46289′ attachment_size=’full’ align=’center’ styling=” hover=” link=” target=” caption=” font_size=” appearance=” overlay_opacity=’0.4′ overlay_color=’#000000′ overlay_text_color=’#ffffff’ animation=’no-animation’][/av_image]

Finally, we hear you cry. It’s about time Facebook changed how we ‘like’ other people’s posts. The ‘like’ button as it stands currently covers one of many features. For instance, it’s often used as a read receipt, to notify others you’ve seen the post. It can be a slightly awkward expression of sympathy on sad posts (after all, you don’t really ‘like’ that your best friend’s dog has just died). It can be quite a meagre way of expressing enjoyment, and doesn’t always convey what we want it to. That’s why Facebook have announced the use of not one, but 5 extra options, including: ‘love’, ‘haha’, ‘wow’, ‘sad’ and ‘angry’. It’s currently being rolled out in beta in the US, so here’s hoping it hits our shores soon.

Weirdest tech story of the week:
One unfortunate couple are receiving a lot of uninvited guests

If you’ve got a fancy expensive smartphone, the odds are that you downloaded a ‘find my phone’ app the second you set it up. I’m not quite sure why we do this- after all, how many of us actually have the guts to follow our phone thieves and demand our devices back? However, many people in the US have been playing the super-sleuth and tracking down their lost tech, with rather unfortunate consequences. It seems there’s a bug in one of these apps, meaning that for the last 11 months a couple in Atlanta, GA, have had at least 12 people coming to their door demanding gadgets back. The couple in question, however, don’t have the phones. Christina Lee and Michael Saba have even answered the door to police a few times, and nobody can offer an explanation for the fault. Remember to take your tech with a pinch of salt- even robots make mistakes.

We’d love to hear your thoughts!
