Welcome back to The 848 Update. Following on from our Mobile World Congress special we’re finding it difficult to stop talking about mobile technology. From VR in unexpected places to new features from Cortana, mobile devices are still giving us plenty to focus on.

Last week we spoke all about the Mobile World Congress held in Barcelona. Easily the stand out story that caught everyone’s eye was the development of new VR systems which will be used to enhance social networking and gaming. With most headsets set to leave your wallet several hundred pounds lighter, you might instead want to take a brief trip to Sweden to pick up a Happy Meal.

Swedish branches of McDonald’s are set to start including ‘Happy Goggles’ as part of the children’s meal. Effectively a version of Google Cardboard, the selected Happy Meal boxes can be pulled apart and folded to create a card head set, which lenses and a smart phone are then placed inside. The intention is to create an “immersive experience” for young patrons but, let’s face it, they’ll be getting in line behind plenty of big kids first!

When I first got a mobile phone I had to charge it around once a week. Nowadays I’m lucky if I reach lunchtime with more than 50% battery left. Sometimes I’m even met with the nasty surprise of checking my handset to find that I’ve only just about got enough left to make a quick phone call.

Cortana is about to come even more integrated with Windows 10 desktop as (in addition to missed calls) app notifications, text messages and low battery warnings will be sent straight to your PC. Just hope that you have a phone charger handy when one comes through!

[av_heading heading=’Kanye West the Pirate’ tag=’h3′ style=” size=” subheading_active=” subheading_size=’15’ padding=’10’ color=’custom-color-heading’ custom_font=’#3fa0cf’][/av_heading]

Kanye West is no stranger to controversial headlines but, this week, he’s angering members of the technology and music industry alike. Sharing a snap on Twitter of what he was listening to, Kanye incidentally revealed a tab open for the infamous torrenting website Pirate Bay, seemingly searching for Serum – a $189 digital synthesizer.

Given Kanye’s recent moan that too many music fans are downloading his latest album, ‘Life of Pablo’ illegally, this does seem fairly hypocritical. Considering he also sells T-shirts costing more than the price of the software you’d think he’d have the change to spare!
