Windows 10 has seen its first update this month since the inital release in July. Estimates suggest that Windows 10 is now approaching 100 million devices– not too shabby on Microsoft’s part! But to reach their ultimate goal of 1 billion devices operating on Windows 10, they need to keep evolving and improving. That’s just what Microsoft has done with this autumn update. Read on below to see what’s new to Windows 10.

[av_heading heading=’1. Unified mailboxes.’ tag=’h3′ style=” size=” subheading_active=” subheading_size=’15’ padding=’10’ color=’custom-color-heading’ custom_font=’#3fa3cf’][/av_heading]

[av_two_third first]Finally, you don’t need to toggle between inboxes to get the mail you want. New to Windows 10 is the unified mailbox, which lets you select which accounts you want to link, and access your new emails in one sole location.  Very productive! However, even though this feature is brand new to Windows 10’s November update, it’s only been released for mobile OS. We’re hoping it hits PCs soon.[/av_two_third]

[av_heading heading=’2. Cortana is even smarter.’ tag=’h3′ style=” size=” subheading_active=” subheading_size=’15’ padding=’10’ color=’custom-color-heading’ custom_font=’#3fa3cf’][/av_heading]

[av_two_third first]Microsoft’s personal assistant is an integral part of the OS, so an upgrade to her was bound to be new to Windows 10. She can now recognise your handwriting- turning your illegible scribbles into important notes. She’ll also keep you updated on the status of any ticketed event you’re attending, like movies or concerts. And if you’re in an Uber-enabled area, she can order you a cab at the click of a finger. She’s like the secretary you’ve never had.[/av_two_third]

[av_two_third first]Got a lot going on? Not to worry- Windows have touched up their start menu to bring something new to Windows 10. The start menu is now in a consistent style, and you can have up to 2048 visible ‘tiles’. You’ll also have the option for recommended apps, but don’t worry- you can turn this off if you’d sooner pick by hand.[/av_two_third]

[av_heading heading=’4.Find my device.’ tag=’h3′ style=” size=” subheading_active=” subheading_size=’15’ padding=’10’ color=’custom-color-heading’ custom_font=’#3fa3cf’][/av_heading]

[av_two_third first]New to Windows 10 is also an integrated security protocol, in the form of ‘find my device’. Enabling this built-in tracking will let you keep tabs on any of your devices, if they ever decide to go walkabout. Additionally, you can set your preferences to periodically send the device location to Microsoft’s secure servers, so you can view the last-known location of an absent device.[/av_two_third]

[av_heading heading=’5. Custom colours.’ tag=’h3′ style=” size=” subheading_active=” subheading_size=’15’ padding=’10’ color=’custom-color-heading’ custom_font=’#3fa3cf’][/av_heading]

[av_two_third first]Sure it’s a small feature- but when we consider what’s new to Windows 10, this definitely ranks as one of our faves. Finally, your OS can match your wardrobe- especially because there’s a range of colours available.
[av_icon_box position=’center’ boxed=” icon=’ue81d’ font=’entypo-fontello’ title=’How do I enable?’ link=” linktarget=” linkelement=” font_color=” custom_title=” custom_content=” color=” custom_bg=” custom_font=” custom_border=”]
Go to your Settings, head to Personalisation, then Colours, and turn ‘Show colour on Start, taskbar, and Action Centre’ on. Select your colour!

[av_two_third first]

Again, it’s a small change that’s new to Windows 10, but it’s bound to excite somebody somewhere, right? You can have a plain coloured background instead of an image. The future truly is now.

[av_heading heading=’7. Edge enhancements.’ tag=’h3′ style=” size=” subheading_active=” subheading_size=’15’ padding=’10’ color=’custom-color-heading’ custom_font=’#3fa3cf’][/av_heading]

[av_two_third first]

New to Windows 10’s Edge browser is synchronisation across all your Windows 10 devices. Your browser’s saved favourites and reading lists are available everywhere. Additionally, the update brings with it ‘tab previews’- simply hover over a tab, and a miniature of the webpage appears. Super handy, and advancements like these might just put Edge in the running for leading browser.

[av_two_third first]The first version of Windows 10 created plenty of issues for customers using Windows 7 and Windows 8 product keys- they would have to fully install an outdated OS, and then upgrade once again. New to Windows 10 is the ability to actually skip straight there![/av_two_third]

Simply input the product key into an upgrade-eligible device, and the OS will automatically recognise a higher version is available to you and offer you the upgrade. No re-installation required.[/av_icon_box]

[av_two_third first]One of our favourite cloud storage systems, Box, has been introduced as an app new to Windows 10. Box utilises the cloud to give you excellent flexibility. You can switch devices at will, share and collaborate on files, and even preview files without downloading them to your device. The greatest thing about this app is that it integrates directly with Office applications, so you can open, edit, and create word documents directly in the app.[/av_two_third]

[av_two_third first]A feature brand-new to Windows 10 is the ability to install the OS onto another drive, such as an SD card. If you’re the owner of a laptop or tablet with very limited storage, this could make Windows 10 fully accessible to you across all devices. Just because your device is small, doesn’t mean you don’t deserve the very latest software.[/av_two_third]

[av_two_third first]If you’re experiencing Windows 10 on a touchscreen device, you’ll be happy to know Microsoft have brought back some Windows 8 components that were missed. You can once again grab a thumbnail and pull it to the bottom of the screen to close the app. Windows Snap is also back- if you have 2 apps open, altering the size of one automatically resizes them both simultaneously, a much-missed little tweak.[/av_two_third]
