April Fools Day… that day of the year where no one can be trusted. Whether you’ve chosen today as a way to ease some bad news onto others or have gone all-out with pranking your colleagues, we’ve been keeping tabs on our favourite tech-related April Fools’ Day pranks.

Sometimes it feels like the very best April Fools Day pranks leave us pining after bizarre, unobtainable tech. Food delivery service, Deliveroo, taunted us today with the idea of hands-free food ordering. Imagine just being able to think of a pizza and for it to arrive on your desk in half an hour… the amount of time saved on deciding what you want for lunch alone is worth the investment in this tech, surely?

As a former Keele University student, I’d be lying if I said I’ve ever noticed the clock tower on the top of the library. Saying that, I’m sure a giant digital watch face would have caught my attention! Keele jumped on the April Fools Day bandwagon by announcing the brand new update to the 24 hour library’s clock tower, dubbing it the “Tempus Fugit 2.0” (or, “Time Flies” to non Latin speakers).

Featuring an hourly beep to “wake sleeping students” and international time settings “to assist international students calling home‌” there are certainly some attractive features, I’m just not sure it fits in with the architecture.

Google were forced to hastily withdraw their contribution to April Fools day fun after complaints were made by professionals effected by the prank. The inclusion of the ‘Minion mic drop’ button next to the regular Send icon in Gmail would end email threads by sending a Gif of a Minion dropping a microphone, archiving the conversation and permanently muting all responses.

Though the feature was not rolled out to enterprise accounts, freelancers have been particularly effected. Google Forum users are claiming to have lost contracts and work as a result of accidentally sending out the Minion gif. This prank seems to be going even deeper now though, as there has been further speculation that the entire event is a fabrication and the feature never even existed… confused? So are we!

It’s not all bad news from Google though, check out the promo for their self-driving bike!

[av_heading heading=’Samsung Throwback’ tag=’h3′ style=” size=” subheading_active=” subheading_size=’15’ padding=’10’ color=’custom-color-heading’ custom_font=’#3fa0cf’][/av_heading]

If you’re growing tired of these new-fangled smart phones then the Samsung Galaxy LTD could be for you. Coloured touch screens and internet access isn’t for everyone, so if you’re looking for a phone that simply carries out the basic function of calling others Samsung finally have the ‘new’ handset for you…

…or not. Samsung pranked followers on Twitter by teasing the release of a brand new handset set to be a “BIG reveal”. With a throwback to “the good old days” of brick-sized mobile phones, the Samsung Galaxy LTD might be a disappointment to gullible fans expecting something new but, for everyone else, is a loving nod to times gone by.

And there we have it! We’re safe for another year from April Fools Day. What were your highlights of the day?
