Once upon a time there was a Banker, a housebuilder, an agency and a financial provider who all had one thing in common… The desire to modernise their workplace with Digital Transformation.
The end of support for Windows 7 is fast approaching. We have already seen a surge in Windows 10 and Office 365 migrations due to the advanced security, productivity and cost-effective experience on offer. In fact, Microsoft state that more than half of commercial devices have already transitioned to operate on Windows 10!
There are resources on offer to help guide you in your preparation for the end of Windows 7:
- Microsoft’s Modern Desktop Deployment Center provides in-depth instruction and guidance in migration to Windows 10.
- The Desktop App Assure Program brings together dedicated engineering resources to remedy any issues experienced in application compatibilities. However, Microsoft have reported 99.9% application compatibility, meaning you can begin your migratory journey with confidence.
For those who are unable to migrate all devices and applications to Windows 10 by the 14th January 2020, there are a couple of options that you can consider:
- Microsoft announced there will be Extended Security Updates available for Windows 7 ensuring you remain protected. Eligible customers will be available to purchase these updates on a per-device basis. Please note that the price will increase each year.
- There are plans for Microsoft to launch a Windows Virtual Desktop, which will provide a Windows 7 device with free Extended Security Updates until January 2023. In addition, Office 365 ProPlus will also be supported by these means until this time.
