Whiteboard

Whiteboard is now available to download from the Microsoft Store. Launched back in July as a preview, you are now able to download it in full and enjoy a rich, immersive experience with writing, drawing and collaborating. You can work with colleagues in real time, converting ink into perfect shapes and tables and adding text or even sticky notes to you boards. Whiteboard provides all the necessary tools you would expect from a writing application, while adding a few special little touches of its own. It looks incredible and works just the same. If you spend most of your days hunting high and low for a working drywipe marker, then look at Microsoft Whiteboard.

One Drive

Moving on to your storage updates, OneDrive Activity Center has been given a few tweaks to enhance clarity and ease of use. One of the areas updated focuses on battery life. The battery save features on Windows devices has been improved, pausing sync between desktop and cloud app when your device is switched to battery save mode.

Feedback options have also been added so users can provide Microsoft with further understanding on what is working well and what needs a bit of attention. Always nice to have and gives everyone the chance to voice their opinions and thoughts.

MyAnalytics

MyAnalytics now has a feature designed to keep you on top of your workload and stay organised. This little wonder is called ‘Nudges’. Not as obvious as the classic game of body-checking your friends into the dirt, Nudges offers subtle, data-driven collaboration tips when working within MyAnalytics. Through the use of reminders and alerts, it pops up on your working screen to inform you of priority meetings or tasks. Nudges is included as part of the Enterprise E5 package, as well as available as an add-on for other licensing structures. Nudges is being rolled out over the Summer, so definitely worth a look.

Kaizala

For those working remotely, Microsoft have created a new application for mobiles and devices designed to make working in the field easier and more manageable. Kaizala is an app available for iOS and Android, not to mention the Microsoft Store. Microsoft Kaizala makes it easy to connect and coordinate with your Firstline workers – wherever they are – using a simple-to-use chat interface. Efficiently manage work or collect data from individuals or large groups, even if they’re not in your organization. View built-in reports to get insights for faster decision making. The world of Office 365 gets even smaller…

Microsoft 365

Back in January, the Power BI team made it easier for you to collaborate with your teammates and partners by announcing report sharing in the Power BI Service. Last month, they super charged this experience by enabling you to share reports with filters and slicers applied. Up until now, you’d have to take a screenshot or explain the steps you took to configure the report to a filtered, custom view. Now, all you have to do is make sure the “Share with current filters and slicers” checkbox is selected in the Share pane, and the people will see the report with your filters and slicers applied. (Note that the feature is currently disabled for reports with custom visuals, but the Power BI is working hard to extend this new capability to all reports, including those with custom visuals.)

Live Events

Live event capabilities will be coming to Microsoft Stream, Microsoft Teams, and Yammer.  With this development, customers will be able to schedule, produce, and deliver live events more effectively for a variety of scenarios such as companywide events, leadership updates and more.

In keeping with the video capabilities within Office 365, a new set of intelligent features will soon be available in Microsoft Stream, including:

  • Speaker timelines that use facial detection to identify who is talking, so you can easily jump to a particular speaker in the recording;
  • Speech-to-text and closed captions that capture the event in a readable form and make the content more accessible for everyone.
  • Transcript search and timecodes that let you quickly find moments that matter in a video.

Microsoft Office 365 doesn’t stop improving and developing. That’s what I love about using it. There is always something new or improved I can try out. More importantly, the regular updates and improvements only ever give me even more tools to help me in my role. I am very much looking forward to work with Whiteboard and the other updates look great as well.

I’m always keen to discuss Office 365 and the other products in the Microsoft stack. Give me a shout if you have any thoughts or opinions on the updates. Is there anything you would like to see going forward?
